Frequently Asked Questions

  • Coral stone is a natural limestone rock with fossilized marine organisms such as corals and algae embedded in a calcium carbonate base. It has a rustic appearance with varying pore sizes and may contain minerals like hematite and quartz, giving it shades from cream to pink to yellow. The white color of coral stone from our quarries comes from limestone formed in warm, shallow tropical seas. Each piece is unique due to the natural fossils, and its ability to stay cool in hot weather makes it ideal for outdoor and pool areas.

  • The most common use of coral stone is in floors and wall coverings both exterior and interior, pool curbs, moldings, columns, used as pavers, arches, planters, stairs, cornices, etc.

  • In its natural state, coral has an opaque (matte) appearance, but it can be rammed, stamped and stuccoed, aged, polished, chiseled, beveled, split faced, and sandblasted.

  • It can be installed on concrete or sand.

  • Our coral stone withstands cold, heat, and rain, enduring extreme temperatures of -40°F without cracking or structural change.

  • Yes, our coral stone products are rigorously tested and meet key ASTM standards to ensure quality, durability, and safety. These standards include:

    • Water Absorption and Density: Evaluated using ASTM C97 to measure absorption rates and bulk specific gravity of coral stone.

    • Compressive Strength: Tested according to ASTM C170 to assess the stone’s ability to withstand heavy loads and pressure.

    • Static Coefficient of Friction: Evaluated using ASTM C1028 to determine surface slip resistance under dry and wet conditions.

    • Freeze/Thaw Durability: Assessed using ASTM C666 to measure the stone’s resistance to damage from freeze/thaw cycles.

    • Solar Reflectance Index (SRI): Measured to evaluate the stone’s ability to reflect solar heat and emit thermal radiation.
